Halong Bay at Vietnam has made its identity as one of the new Seven Wonders of the World of nature, even though many of the tourists don’t know about the mystery behind this name. The place is still untouched by a number of travellers from all around the world. In ancient times of Vietnam, Halong literally means “descending dragon” and it is coined from a legend of this primitive land.

The myth says that during early time, when the country was just devised, Vietnamese had to wrangle against fierce raider coming from the North via the sea. Seeing this and feeling sorry for the country, The Jade Emperor sent the Mother Dragon and her children heading on earth to lend a hand to ancient Vietnamese people defend the country.

While the ferocious enemies were ambushing the main land, The Mother Dragon and her children suddenly materialized themselves and incinerated the enemies with their seraphic fire and giant emeralds. The emeralds from the dragon’s mouth scattered all around the battlefield on the sea waters and formed an invulnerable protective wall that left enemy battleship fleet submerged. Because of these holy dragons, the Northern invaders were thrashed away and finally the peace came back in South East Asian country once again.  After a very long time, around some thousands of years later, those emeralds crafted into beautiful floating mountains on sea waters.

After the clash, The Mother Dragon and her children didn’t come back to the heaven, but  opted to stay in the perishable world and turned into human form and targeted for helping people, planting, cropping, raising cattle, reclaiming, and expanding the country.

To remember the help of Mother Dragon and her children, the people live there from generation to generation name the bay where the Mother Dragon descended “Ha Long or Halong” and the bay where her children descended “Bai Tu Long”, which means “Thanks to the Dragon’s children”.
