These are elastic, unpolluted by today’s problems, living out of life but with little change over time. The villages have houses, shops, schools and even police stations. Boats and their sailboats are linked together to provide numbers of safe elements.
Today, there are four major villages in Halong Bay and this is their story. Infact, 2 fishing villages were formed in the early 19th century. Called Giang Vong and Truc Vong, they started due to continuous sea level rise. As people who live on land, people have built houses on boats, keeping their ancestral shrines on land. When they need to discuss local politics, they simply anchor and keep them. From 1946 to 1954, during the war against France, these men scattered all over the bay, eventually returning to build their new floating village when the last area stabilized. The descendants of the villagers now live in the four main villages today: Cua Van; Vung Vieng; Cong Dam and Ba Hang.
You will find Cua Van in Hung Thang Commune, just 20 km away from the tourist pier in Ha Long City. You can come here by boat or Cat Ba Island. The village is located in quiet waters surrounded by mountains. It has been named in a list of the best examples of the ancient village. There are about 200 boats here.
Vung Vieng Village is located in Bai Tu Long Bay, about 40 km from Halong City. This is a preferred stop for cruise ships here due to the picturesque scenery. This is a typical example of a fishing village in Halong Bay. This is home to about 160 people making a living from fish and pearls. More and more local people are working in the tourism industry.
In the mountains around Cong Dam, there are many coral reefs and lakes. The area also has many sandy beaches and is popular on yachting cruises. This is one of the smaller villages and really older in the bay.
As the home of 50 families, Ba Hang is a small village located in a serene strip of water between 2 limestone mountains. Local people make a living from fish and seafood. In the modern era, they are increasingly interested in the infiltration of tourism from which many earn their living.
